Fragrance Safety & Storage

Fragrance and body-care products are for external use only. These guidelines help you use them safely and keep them in good condition.

Patch test first

Before using a new product, apply a small amount to the inside of your forearm and wait 24 hours. If you notice redness, itching or swelling, do not use the product.

Safe use

  • For external use only. Do not swallow.
  • Avoid contact with eyes, mucous membranes and broken or irritated skin. If contact with eyes occurs, rinse thoroughly with water.
  • Discontinue use if irritation occurs and consult a healthcare professional if it persists.
  • If you are pregnant, nursing, or have a skin condition or known allergies, consult your doctor before use.
  • Some fragrance ingredients can increase sensitivity to sunlight. Avoid applying to skin that will be exposed to strong sun.
  • Keep out of reach of children and pets.

Read the label

Always check the ingredient list on the package, especially if you have known sensitivities to essential oils, nut oils or specific fragrance components.

Storage

  • Store at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and heat sources.
  • Keep caps tightly closed to prevent oxidation and evaporation.
  • Bathrooms with large temperature swings can shorten shelf life — a drawer or cabinet is better.
  • Oils and products containing alcohol can be flammable: keep away from open flames.

Shelf life

Most fragrance and body-care products are best used within 12–24 months of opening. A change in color or smell is a sign the product should be replaced.
